| Descripción: | The office of the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection was established in 1978, and on 1st January 2006 it was supplemented by the office of the Federal Commissioner for Freedom of Information. The office is employing 85 collaborators in Bonn and Berlin. The Federal Commissioner provides advice to federal authorities and monitors them as well as other public bodies of the Federation and telecommunications and postal service companies. In addition, she performs advisory and inspecting functions as regards the implementation of security clearance according to the Security Clearance Check Act of the Federation, even insofar as they relate to private companies. The Federal Data Protection Commissioner is a member of the Conference of the Data Protection Commissioners of the Federation and of the Länder and represents Germany in the Article 29 Working Party, a European working group of the data protection commissioners of the EU Member States, and in the European and international conferences of Data Protection Commissioners and of Freedom of Information Commissioners. Furthermore, she participates in the Joint Data Protection Supervisory Bodies of Europol and the Schengen Information System. |
